What divers say

“What I really appreciate about Ibbeyz is his holistic approach to teaching and diving. He doesn’t just teach you how to complete a course; he wants to make you a better diver. He focuses on the things that actually need to be understood and mastered in practice, and has a great ability to connect theory directly with what you are doing underwater. He also welcomes any questions, no matter how basic, which makes learning with him very easy.”

Shark Sensei · 6 October 2026

“If you're looking for top-notch diving instruction, we highly recommend Ibbeyz and his dive school! We completed our Open Water and Advanced courses with him. Ibbeyz is not only a very experienced and conscientious instructor, but he's also incredibly empathetic and quickly understands the individual needs and circumstances of his students. We especially appreciate that, in addition to all the diving knowledge, Ibbeyz taught us so much about the underwater world. His knowledge about sharks, in particular, has changed our perspective. He lives in harmony with nature and the marine life, mindful”

“Scuba diving & Oceanfanatics: Impressive! Ibbeyz and Mel are amazing instructors. They are personable and a pleasure to interact and dive with! I completed my PADI AOW course with Ibbeyz who was professional, patient and committed to teaching and guiding me. Scuba equipment was well maintained. Amazing location/ocean life with easy access to other islands and Hanifaru Bay. Night dives at the house reef are super exciting!”

Ocean Fanatics - Reethi Beach · 11 December 2024

“There were some fab activities to do, the dive centre team were really nice, I tried diving for the first time and felt well looked after by the instructor, Ibbeyz. Highly recommended, my only issue was that I didn’t stay long enough so I may just have to return ☺️”

Questions divers ask us

Shark Sensei is a shark diving academy based in Fuvahmulah, Maldives, combining local experience, marine science and practical diving knowledge to provide specialised tiger shark diving training.

Shark Sensei offers specialised tiger shark diving training in Fuvahmulah, Maldives, where regular encounters provide the real-world setting for both recreational and professional training.

Shark Sensei offers two SSI specialties: the Tiger Shark Eco Diver for recreational divers and the Tiger Shark Safety Diver for professional-level training.

The Tiger Shark Eco Diver is for divers who want to learn about tiger sharks and how to behave responsibly as part of a group during an encounter. The Tiger Shark Safety Diver is for professional divers who want to take responsibility for the group — planning and leading the dive, assessing conditions, reading shark behaviour and making decisions throughout the encounter.

Both courses lead to an SSI certification. The Tiger Shark Eco Diver is a recreational specialty, while the Tiger Shark Safety Diver is an SSI professional-level specialty. Shark Sensei delivers the specialised training, while SSI awards the certification upon successful completion of the course requirements.

No previous tiger shark diving experience is required to start with the Tiger Shark Eco Diver, provided you meet its entry requirements. To enrol in the Tiger Shark Safety Diver, you must first complete the Eco Diver, so you already have a foundation in tiger shark knowledge and responsible in-water practices.

Course duration depends on the programme, weather and sea conditions, and individual performance. The Safety Diver is performance-based, so completion depends on demonstrating the required skills rather than simply completing a fixed number of days.
